LAKES OF MID WALES

The Cambrian Mountains are famous for their challenging hills and breathtaking descents. The highlights of this tour are an unrelenting climb up the Devil’s Staircase, featured in the Milk Race in the 1970s and 1980s; and an alpine-style ascent through the Cwm Ystwyth valley to the Elan Valley reservoirs.

You'll be rewarded by spectacular views across a rugged mountain landscape, with our rides following traffic-free routes through remote river valleys and mountain passes. If you're looking for a road cycling challenge in a spectacular natural environment, this is the tour for you.

Your base is the market town of Tregaron at the foot of the Cambrian Mountains. You’ll be staying in a cosy, country inn renowned for its friendly welcome. Itinerary

Day 1 Check in to accommodation in Tregaron. You can set-up your bike, before a briefing for the next day's ride.

Day 2 – Departing from Tregaron we head out along the Teifi Valley. We then begin our climb into the heart of the Cambrian Mountains, where we will skirt Llyn Brianne before starting a fabulous descent along the river Towy. We then head back across the breathtaking Abergwesyn valley to tackle the Devil’s Staircase, which has a gradient of 25% at its steepest. You can then enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery on your way back towards Tregaron.

Day 3 – After breakfast and a short briefing, we will follow quiet lanes winding through the lower Ystwyth Valley. We then climb again into the Cambrian Mountains, heading for the picturesque Elan Valley reservoirs via an alpine-style mountain road.
